Rider Advice Days at
Nash 2011
This year I hope to arrange four RAD days at
Nash for youth of all classes and adult beginners and Blue route
riders who wish to improve their skills.
Dates have yet to be set but if you are interested let me know
by dropping me an email on dunksfam@yahoo.co.uk.
Let me know what age for kids, what level you are and what you
want from the day.
RAD’s go from 9.00am to 12.00 noon on a Saturday, you
would be put in a group of approximately the same age and level
with an experienced rider giving advice. If you find it to hard
or to easy, let me know and we can move you to another group.
Have a look at our excellent web site and there is loads of
information and pictures to see and read.
We ask for a donation of £10-00 for adults and £5-00
for teenagers, kids are free. This is to cover costs in licensing,
insurance etc.
NEWS FOR UP AND COMING EXPERTS
Can you answer these questions for me:
1) Do you want to be an aspiring National Rider?
2) Do you want to clean the new sections at Nash?
3) Do you want to win the “Tough Ten” trial in 2011?
As you may have noticed at Nash during a working party at the
end of 2010 we put in lots of new sections, some are a bit special
and for the experienced and above riders only.
These have been constructed as a result from requests put to
us by riders entering National level trials where sections are
much more difficult than we are used to.
We have decided that to reduce the likelihood of accidents on
the sections we will run a training day for anybody who wants
to learn how to clean these formidable obstacles.
We are approaching various “elite” riders to give
this training and hopefully in April or May (when the weather
is warmer) an event will go ahead.
It will be a whole day event and will be open to anybody who
wants to learn how to ride these sections in a more protected
environment, “catchers” will be provided or bring
your own. The only rule is to please book with me first.
There will be a BBQ for everybody at Nash at lunchtime and our
most famous resident chef will be asked to apply his skills
to the usual burgers and sausages.
If you are interested in riding or assisting let me know

Riders Advice Day July 2010– Nash
Mills
This
is the 2010 South Midland Centre youth team Jason North, Bob
Devereux, Tom Haslam, Jordan Fletcher and Daniel Greeves. (Daniel
was on holiday and Tom Haslam had bike problems so do not appear
in the photo). Trainers were Chris Koch and Sam Haslam (back
left and right)
This photo is a group shot of everybody who showed up on the
day to assist in the delivery of the Intercentre trial youth
team training day at Round Rocket on 24th July. The ACU South
Midlands sponsored it, I arranged it together with Team Manager
Roy Watson. Ted N came to give a presentation of a IRC rear
tyre to each of the team riders. Click on image to enlarge

Riders Advice Day 5th December 2009 –
Nash Mills
Some of our more accomplished Adult and Youth riders were
treated today with a training session lead by our local highly
skilled and experienced riders – Chris Koch, Julian
Wigg, Alexz Wigg and Sam Haslam. Eleven adult , Clubman to
expert and four youth A riders were treated to the advice
of these very able teachers and all progressed and showed
great improvement during the day. In the morning Sam took
our 50/50 and expert group through its paces and showed them
what is necessary to achieve and retain expert status in the
South Midland centre. Chris took our youth “A”
group and taught them some of the finer points needed to win
on a regular basis and improve their results in the yearly
league championships. Alexz took our Novice group and raised
their skill levels to approaching expert status by lunch time
as they climbed the long reach of wet and greasy canal steps.
Julian took on our clubman and reminded them of the skills
that some had long forgotten and improved their riding hugely.
The improvement of one member of this group was commented
on by all and I think even he was astounded how well he rode
at the end of this session. We had a change around for the
afternoon session Sam took the Youth A, Alexz the Expert and
50/50 riders. Chris and Julian took Novice and Clubman riders.

The afternoon session became extremely challenging for the
Youth A and Expert – 50/50 riders. Sam and Alexz had
raised the bar and the skills shown by our riders surpassed
anything that they may have thought at 9.00am and they achieved
what I am sure they would have thought “The impossible”
with some thoughtful and excellent riding. The clubmen and
Novice groups had combined and Chris and Julian set some very
challenging sections that were ridden with great skill. The
riders in this group had all showed a marked improvement during
the day and that they had learnt a great deal from this very
experienced pair of Instructors.
Under the instruction of these hugely experienced and highly
skilled trainers the confidence of all the riders was now
peaking and levels of highly accomplished riding was shown
by all of those taking part in the day. Thanks should be given
to our volunteer catchers of Gary, Gary, Dave, Kevin (If I
missed anybody, I apologise) who helped throughout the day,
these are the people who make the day a safe learning experience
for the riders and their help is greatly appreciated by all.
And thanks also to the back room boys and girl who make these
events happen – Shani, Steve, Terry and Ted who do all
the boring bits like ACU licences and paperwork.
If you want to take part in the next RAD day drop me an email
on dunksfam@yahoo.co.uk
or keep an eye on our excellent web site for the next date.
This will hopefully be in January/February 2010 for beginners
and wobblers.
We run RAD for both beginners and wobblers level (adult riders
aspiring to Novice level or youth of all levels) and expert
days of Novice/clubman and above and all youth “A”
levels.
We match you with similar riders in an appropriate group to
give you advice in a safe environment.
Volunteer riders of a appropriate level that can improve your
skills and increase confidence give their advice on how to
ride so that you can compete in a trial by riding safely and
without un-necessarily injuring yourself and perhaps be competitive
and maybe win your group or even maybe the trial.
There were a few photographers there and hopefully they will
pass their labours to the webmaster for publication on our
web site, have a look there and see what you missed.
